In the Degree Programmes for the diploma of Education Degrees from UCLM, the teacher-training placements are structured in two subjects, Practicum I, of 18 credit hours, to be completed in the first term in the third year of the degree, and Practicum II, of 24 credit hours, to be completed in the second term in the fourth year of the degree. The Practicum allows students to familiarise themselves with the real context in which they will develop their future profession, relating the theory learned in other subjects of the Degree Programme with the reality in the classroom and the school. Therefore, they will be able to apply the knowledge and skills they have learned in the classroom in a way that is both guided and oriented, which makes the acquisition of the necessary competences for their professional practice possible.

Ordinances ECI / 3857/2007 and ECI / 3854/2007 of 27 December (BOE of 29 December of 2007) state that the requirements for the verification of official university diplomas which permit their holders to practice the teaching profession in early childhood and primary education determine through the Teaching Planification that the Practicum is to be carried out in early childhood and primary education centers which are recognised as training centers for placements through agreements between the Educative Administrations and the universities. They will be in-person in nature and students will be tutored by university professors and teachers of early childhood and primary education who are accredited as placement tutors.

Although the planning of the Practicum is the responsibility of the Faculties of Education of the UCLM, it is the Regional Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport which, by means of the Order of 05/06/2012, has regulated for the current academic year the development of university student placements in non-university educational centres supported by public funds in the Autonomous Community of Castilla-La Mancha, establishing an institutional relationship to guarantee the training of students on placements within the framework of an educational project.
