Library card

The library card is the user´s identification card which entitles him or her to enter the library and use its different services. This is necessary both for entering the library and for using its different services, and especially the loan service. The university card and the library card are personal and are not transferable, so no book can be taken out with a card that belongs to somebody else.

Who can request one?

  • All members of the UCLM university community (students, teachers, grant holders, FPI, administration and services staff).
  • Those who are of legal age, and who are not connected to the university, may also request an external user card, by means of an official request justifying thisand attaching 2 photographs and a photocopy of their National Identity Card. This will be valid for one year.

 

How to request this?

Those who are not part of the UCLM university community may apply for an external users card, by going to the Loans counters of the Document Access section at the  different libraries, and handing in this  request  duly filled in with  an up-to-date identity-card-size photograph and a photocopy of their National Identity Card.

It is also  possible to apply for  the library card online. Persons wishing to apply for this,  must register. Once registered, the card can be applied for at the User Services Centre at the Library, filling out the fields which appear on the form and paying the pertinent fees.

 

How much does it cost?

For members of the university community, this services is provided free of charge. Users who are not associated with the university, must pay an annual fee of 30 €. This does not include users included in the agreements endorsed by the university and public and private institutions in which it is specified that, the students who would have finished their official university education at the UCLM within 4 years of applying for the card, as well as staff who would have finished their work at the university in the same period and the members of the Alumnus Association.

 

Collecting the card

The library will issue an external user card in no more than 2 days, once all pertinent documentation has been received. 

  

Lost card

 In the event, the card is lost, the user must notify this to the Document Access Service at the Campus Library to prevent it from being used for fraudulent purposes, regardless of the  provisions in respect to the regulations on the use of  UCLM cards, the card owner will be liable for any loans taken out with these cards.

Types of users

For the purposes of lending, the following types of users have been established, without detriment to those, which due to service needs, may be established in the future.

  • Group 1: Teachers, research grant holders, and administration and services staff.
  • Group 2: Postgraduate students.
  • Group 3: Degree students and members of the Alumnus Association.
  • Group 4: Users with agreements.
  • Group 5: External users.
  • Group 6: Business users (UCLM Departments and Services). This type of user will need a member of the service or department designatedin writing by the heads of this, to take nominal responsibility, and who will provide a report justifying the need for this status. The library management on the pertinent campus will authorize or deny this status, depending on the needs of the library itself and its users.

 

Lending periods and number of copies

The following loan periods and number of copies have been established according to the groups of users:

  • Group 1; will be entitled to up to 20 copies for long-term borrowing for 365 days and 4 copies for short-term borrowing for seven days. Moreover, they will be entitled to special loans for books acquired belonging to collections, the expenses for which come out of the research project budgets. This loan will, likewise, be for 365 days which can be extended until the project has finished.
  • Group 2: will be entitled to up to 15 copies, which may be: 15 copies for long-term loans for 30 days; 4 copies for short-term loans for 7 days; 1 laptop computer for 15 days or for lending for use in the hall; 3 support materials for teaching and learning.
  • Group 3: will be entitled to up to 8 copies, which may be: 8 copies for long-term loans for 15 days; 4 copies for short-term loans for 7 days; 1 laptop computer for 15 days or for lending for use in the hall; 3 support materials for teaching and learning.
  • Group 4: will be entitled to up to 6 copies, which may be: 6 copies for long-term loans for 15 days; 2 copies for short-term loans for 7 days; they will not be entitled to borrow laptop computers nor support materials for teaching and learning.
  • Group 5: may take out up to 4 copies for long-term use for 15 days. They will not be entitled to borrow copies for short-term loans, laptop computers, nor support materials for teaching and learning.
  • Group 6: may take out up to 100 copies for 365 days. They will not be entitled to borrowsupport materials for teaching and learning.
