Clinical Teaching of the third year of the Medical Degree at the University Hospital of Toledo

Next September 18 will be inaugurated the new Teaching Unit of the Degree of Medicine in the Toledo Hospital Complex.

Since the 2016/2017 academic year, sixth-year students have been doing part of their rotation in Toledo.

Given the high demand for the degree, the commitment of a public university like the UCLM to optimize the regional public health resources of the SESCAM in training and the obligation to comply with the law of patient privacy that limits the presence to three students in any clinical act with a patient, from the beginning of the legislature and from the Vice-Rectorate of Health Sciences, a strategy was designed to distribute students in the main regional hospitals.

Thus, from the 2020/2021 academic year, new students can choose, depending on their preference and their access score, four itineraries in the degree of medicine, starting and finishing in the Faculties of Medicine of Albacete and Ciudad Real or, from the third year, move to complete their training in the University Complex of Toledo.

In addition to this offer, in the 2023/2024 academic year, a total of 10 transfer places from other universities (5 attached to Albacete and 5 to Ciudad Real to complete the third to sixth year in Toledo) can be applied for in the second half of July.

This is the first time in more than a decade that students from other universities have been offered a transfer to the successful medical degree at UCLM. It is important to highlight that this academic year 2023/2024 there were more than 4000 students who applied for admission to the first year in the degree of Medicine at the UCLM.

This new strategy aims, on the one hand, to recover the students who could not access the UCLM and, on the other hand, to try to enhance the educational offer of the recently inaugurated University Hospital of Toledo and thus optimize the public health care resources of the region.
