New Students

The project for our School was created in 1998 and has been conditioned by present and future challenges of the civil engineering profession and by the supply of other masters at Spanish universities. Both of these factors have helped define the main parts of a high quality modern training model based on the following points.

  • Adopting "Project-based Learning" as the key item and distinguishing factor in the educational process.

  • Learning in small groups with a focus on developing communication and innovation skills.

  • An in-depth study of the land and environmental aspects of civil engineering.

  • Internationalisation and use of new technologies.

  • Promoting study trips and visits to works as fundamental elements in learning about civil engineering.

 

 

Throughout the life of the school which goes back over 25 years, this ambitious teaching project has shown it to be reliable and valuable in training civil engineers who have a comprehensive outlook about land, who are sensitive to the impact civil engineering has, have rigorous technical training, are capable of leading multidisciplinary work teams and can communicate effectively. Our graduates develop their careers in all areas of civil engineering and all over the world.

Our educational model has been recognised with the EUR-ACE® seal of quality, awarded in 2016 and renewed in 2023 for the Degree in Civil and Land Engineering and the Masters in Civil Engineering in 2020.

  • At ORI-Ciudad Real there is a list of  flats available for students to share. We normally help students to find a suitable place to stay when they arrive in Ciudad Real. There is also a weekly newspaper which has advertisements for flats for rent. We strongly urge you to look for a flat once you arrive in Ciudad Real. At our office you can make phone calls or arrange an interview with the owners, if you so wish and remember our supply of student rooms outstrips demand for them.
  •   Regarding this, and if you need it, there is an ORI Facebook page: join us at Ori Ciudad Real. There is also an association of students who help other students with accommodation, study plans, social life, etc and you can find them on Facebook on ESN UCLM Ciudad Real.
  •   The price of a shared flat varies between 130 and 200 €/month. Flats usually have a washing machine and a well-stocked kitchen (oven, spoons, frying pans etc), but you must bring bedclothes and towels or you can buy them here at a good price.
  •   For the first two or three days in Ciudad Real, students can stay at a hotel which costs between 30 and 60 € per night. Get in touch with the International Office so they can help you out with this (ori.cr@uclm.es).
  •   The climate in Ciudad Real: Autumns and springs are rather cold and dry (3-4 ºC at night, 8-12 ºC during the day. In spring days are warm and nights cool but can get warm after Easter. Summer is hot and temperatures surpass 30-35 degrees.
  •   There is also an option to live at a university hall of residence but the UCLM does not deal with this. Enquire about this at ori.cr@uclm.es.
  • In Ciudad Real, the Erasmus Student Network (ESN) helps international students in their academic and social life. ESN Ciudad Real can, on request and according to availability, allocate a mentor, a veteran student at the UCLM, to all students who arrive in Ciudad Real.
