On February 13th, the professor and director of the E.T.S. of Industrial Engineering of Albacete, José A. Almendros Ibáñez, and the PhD student and researcher, Miguel Ángel Alfaro López, represented the Energy Efficiency and Thermal Equipment group (ENERSYS) during the annual internal workshop of the Spanish Network for Thermal Energy Storage.
This event, held annually, aims to bring together the different components of RedTES to foster synergies between the main research groups and national companies related to thermal energy storage. This network helps eliminate technological and economic barriers in the deployment of this technology, with the goal of improving and consolidating the achievements of Spanish research at an international level. In recent years, RedTES has grown exponentially, comprising more than 40 prominent institutions in the field of thermal energy storage, including research groups and companies, and even expanding beyond Spanish borders, highlighting the great importance this technology has acquired as a key tool for future decarbonization challenges.
The event, organized by RedTES in Barcelona and coordinated by the GREiA research group of the University of Lleida, began with a visit by more than 25 researchers from various research centers, companies, and universities in the network to the facilities of the company Croda to observe the manufacturing processes of their phase change materials (PCMs) for thermal energy storage.
After the visit, the RedTES meeting took place with the aim of showcasing the research of each network member and seeking synergies among them. A "virtual speed networking" session was held in which network members uploaded their research posters to the website (https://redtes.udl.cat/) and short meetings were established between members to discuss their work and seek potential future collaborations, both in person and virtually.
The result was an enriching day in which contacts with the different network components were strengthened, future collaborations were sought, and the research of the ENERSYS group in thermal energy storage was showcased.
Finally, it is worth noting that on February 20th, one week after the workshop, the provisional resolution of the 2024 call for excellence networks was received, with RedTES being proposed for funding once again for the third consecutive call, receiving funding for the next two years.
