Students in the Dual Master’s in Renewable Energies have begun their academic and dual training in companies

03/04/2024

The Dual University Master’s in Renewable Energies (MUER) at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) has initiated both academic and dual training for its students. In the first edition, all 30 available slots were filled. This postgraduate program was created to address the challenges posed by the current energy and environmental context, where sustainability emerges as the new reference paradigm.

The master’s program is pioneering at the national level due to its dual training itinerary within companies, starting in this academic year. The program offers a comprehensive technical education in renewable energy production technologies, including photovoltaic and thermal solar energy, wind energy, and biomass. It also covers other technologies related to energy storage and hydrogen.

Additionally, this postgraduate program equips students with the ability to design and evaluate the technical, environmental, and economic viability of energy projects. It provides advanced knowledge about the current energy context, regulatory framework, and the environmental implications of energy generation facilities.

Once the common part of the degree is completed, explains the coordinator, Emilio Gómez Lázaro, students will follow one of three itineraries according to their preferences: two academic tracks—Organization and Management of Renewable Energy Companies in Albacete, and Bioenergy in Ciudad Real. The third option is the dual track, which spans a six-month period and includes the completion of the master’s thesis, entirely within a company under a labor contract. This opportunity arises from agreements signed between UCLM and a dozen companies in Castilla-La Mancha, leading in the field of renewable energies: Cade Soluciones de Ingeniería, Centro Nacional del Hidrógeno, Eiffage Energía Sistemas, Generaciones Fotovoltaicas de la Mancha (GFM), res-group, Instituto de Sistemas Fotovoltaicos de Concentración (ISFOC), +INTeligencia, Nimo, Planea Energía, and Soluciones y Desarrollos de Ingeniería y Servicios (SYDIS).

The program is distributed across the region, with teaching centers at the Technical Schools of Industrial Engineering in Albacete and Ciudad Real. The UCLM’s Institute of Renewable Energies Research also contributes its laboratories for practical training in numerous subjects. Dual training in companies takes place at their workplaces, located in municipalities across Albacete, Ciudad Real, and Toledo.

The first edition has successfully filled all 30 available slots, and pre-registration for the second edition for the upcoming academic year is already underway.

For those interested, in addition to other aid options, there is a call for scholarships and grants from the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, and Sports available for post-obligatory level students for the upcoming academic year. The application deadline is May 10, 2024, at 3:00 PM.
